Bio

My Name is Katie Schwehr.  Growing up in the catholic faith has always been a focus in my life. Having a faith-filled education throughout my academic growth has always guided me in life by teaching me values, concern for others, and a purpose to serve as a daughter of Christ. I started my religious education in Kindergarten at St. Hillary Catholic School in Pico Rivera. In second grade, my family moved to Temple City, where I became a student at St. Luke Catholic School; where I participated in volleyball, basketball, track and field, and Girl Scouts.  After graduating, I continued my Catholic education at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in  Glendora.
In College, I attended the University of California Santa Barbara where I double majored in Fine Arts and Art History with an emphasis in Architecture and Environments.  After graduating, I began teaching early childhood education art and craft classes for children aged 3-6. Teaching these courses sparked my desire to teach full time, which encouraged me to continue my education and earn my Masters in Fine Art from Memphis College of Art in Tennessee.  During this time, I continued to teach art to children, was a teacher’s aide in Art History courses, and worked in the college library.  These roles, along with my education, expanded my knowledge in the field and allowed me to learn how to adjust lessons to students at different levels and meet them at their learning level. Upon graduation, I continued teaching art to kids at Creative Minds, a private art studio in Memphis, and started teaching for the local colleges art education and studio classes. I then became the head librarian, where I collaborated with  administration, community, and helped students discover their passion for researching further into their field of study.
As a long time member of St. Luke church  and graduate of St. Luke Catholic School, I have always enjoyed the sense of community and family here at St. Luke Catholic School.
I am really excited to bring my enthusiasm, energy, education, and past experiences together as your child’s fourth grade teacher.

“I AM ST. LUKE CATHOLIC SCHOOL!”
